Australia offers so many different experiencesBritish travellers are booking flights to Australia in their droves because the country offers a range of exciting experiences, it has been claimed.

Janice Kurrle, UK marketing manager at the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC), said that although the antipodean country is so far away, it has a lot in common with Britain, due to the shared commonwealth heritage.

When asked to explain the lure of Australia for gap year students in particular, Ms Kurrle said that the range of experiences on offer is "alluring and inspirational".

"There are a lot of attractions in Australia which are quite alluring to the gap year traveller, things like the Great Barrier Reef, Kanga Island, Uluru and Sydney," she said.

The spokeswoman added that the current economic situation means that gap year students are far more likely to get a job in Australia, where the economy is "booming", than if they stay in the UK.
