Lots to do on Rottnest IslandHoliday-makers arriving on cheap flights to Perth could explore Rottnest Island this summer, which is located in the Indian Ocean.

One of the best things about the island is that cars are banned, so expect no traffic, noise or congestion.

People concerned about how they will get around the 11-kilometre wide island needn't worry as a bicycle is all they need.

It takes between 30 and 60 minutes on the ferry to get to the island from Perth, which is known affectionately as Rotto.

The pristine waters around the island are perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving, giving you the "best view" of the colourful marine life.

Those wanting to stick to land have an endless list of things to do.

There is a wealth of recreational activities on offer, including golf and tennis and some 60 plus beaches to either relax or play sports on.

In the past the island was used as a penal colony and military training ground, so there's plenty of rich history to explore as well.

Rottnest Island gets its name from a small species of Marsupial called Quokkas, which live in and around the island.
