Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams at GoMA

Brits travelling on flights to Brisbane who are looking for a bit of culture are encouraged to check out Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams, a brand new "landmark" exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA).

The show features a renowned collection of work from the Musee national d'art moderne, Centre Pomidou, Paris.

Totalling more than 108 works by 56 artists, the collection includes a myriad of mediums from paintings, sculptures, films, collages and drawings.

It is a rare opportunity to see these collected works outside of Paris, making the exhibition a unique experience to say the least.

One of the most fascinating, provocative and innovative art movements to have emerged within and outside of the conventions of art, this exhibition presents a historical overview of surrealism.

From its evolution in Dada experiments to its metaphysical questioning inspired by the growing body of psychology dealing with the subconscious, this show includes some seminal pieces of work by Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of public talks, discussions and performances, as well as a full-colour exhibition catalogue.
