Anyone who was on board a flight to New Zealand with Emirates may have seen an important piece of cargo.

Emirates Airline carries Webb Ellis Cup to New Zealand Travellers taking Emirates Airlines flights to New Zealand may have been among those who got to see the Webb Ellis Cup.

The prize which is given to the winners of the Rugby World Cup (RWC) has been transported to Auckland by the airline as it is the official sponsor of the contest.

Originally setting off from London, Richard Vaughan, Emirates' divisional senior vice-president for commercial operations worldwide, explained that it then visited Dubai, where it took in some of the sights such as the Burj Khalifa.

After a stopover in Sydney, the cup will then travel to Auckland on September 2nd 2011, in time for the opening game one week later.

"Through our partnership with RWC 2011 one of our main objectives was to make rugby and RWC 2011 as accessible as possible and I believe that we have taken a huge step in achieving this," added Mr Vaughan.

As well as learning about rugby, cabin crew and other staff on flights to New Zealand are also being offered lessons to learn more about Dubai.
