Heron Island hosts diving festival People on flights to Brisbane who are planning a trip up to the Great Barrier Reef could be interested in stopping off at Heron Island in order to learn more about diving.

The location off the north-east coast of the country is one of the most popular places to go diving and to celebrate this the island is hosting the Heron Island Dive Festival until September 11th 2011.

As well as talking about diving itself, other activities which will be covered during the event include underwater photography and learning about the turtles which are native to the location.

"Divers will be able to enjoy two dives a day, plus night dives, ensuring they really get to know the myriad dive sites, bommies and extensive marine life on this island," the authority noted.

After taking flights to Brisbane, those who plan to travel on to Perth can now go in business class with Virgin after it launched a new service from the east coast.
