New Zealand town to be given its own tartan

People on flights to New Zealand who visit the town of Hororata could soon be able to get hold of some tartan relating to the location as it is having one produced.

The town was damaged during the Christchurch earthquake at the start of the year and in order to raise funds to help with repairing the buildings, it is hosting a fundraising day that will celebrate its Scottish roots, the Scotsman reported.

After being crafted in the Borders town of Selkirk, the piece of fabric will be transported 11,000 miles where it will be presented as a gift from the people of Scotland.

The 30 metres of material will be put on display at the event on November 5th 2011 and will then be sold to the highest bidder.

A lot of people could be planning to take flights to New Zealand soon, as the country is currently hosting the Rugby World Cup.
