People often decide to take a holiday in order to help them to recover from a broken heart.

A study into travel habits by Virgin Atlantic found that many Brits will head overseas to escape romantic problems.

In a study of long-haul travellers, ten per cent stated they were going away to leave behind their broken heart.

It dubbed these individuals as Elvis passengers, as they are making a trip to Heartbreak Hotel.

She said that destinations in the Caribbean were among the most popular, with Sydney, Cape Town and Hong Kong all also proving to be popular destinations.

"There's nothing like getting onboard an aircraft to leave emotional baggage behind," said airline spokeswoman Laura Hutcheson.

Some people on flights to Sydney could head to the 100 Mile Challenge, which will pit chefs against each other to produce a meal from locally-sourced ingredients.
