Queen takes ride on Melbourne tram People on cheap flights to Melbourne could find they are travelling on transport used by the Queen after they arrive if they use one of the city's trams.

Her Royal Highness and Prince Philip are currently touring Australia and have spent some time in the city during their stay.

The vehicle had been given a makeover as it was used to transport the royals from Federation Square to Government House, where they were to have a lunchtime engagement.

Joylene Smith was in charge of the vehicle and said it was an honour to drive the pair.

"When they got on I said hello to the Queen and Philip said 'come on driver lets go, we're running late,' so I thought we better go," Ms Smith said.

Visitors on cheap flights to Melbourne next year could take in a new show, as King Kong - Live on Stage is set to premiere in the city in 2012.
