A resort in Australia is celebrating after it was named after it was singled out for its conservation work.

Australian resort honoured in Conde Nast awards

People taking flights to Australia who want to stay at a destination that will be kind to the environment could choose the Wolgan Valley resort and spa.

The location is noted as being the world's first internationally accredited carbon-neutral resort and as a result of this has been honoured at the 2011 Conde Nast World Savers Award.

The awards honour locations which have scored well in categories including wildlife conservation, education, poverty relief, environmental and cultural preservation as well as health initiatives.

"In just two years of opening, we're incredibly humbled to receive another global accolade for our commitment to wildlife conservation," said Joost Heymeijer, general manager at the resort.

The resort is set in 4,000 acres of land and is a dedicated wildlife reserve.

Finding holidays that are socially responsible could be the priority of more people on flights to Australia soon, as a study by Abta - the travel association showed that 33 per cent of people are now concerned about if their holiday is eco-friendly.
