Sydney gets its own new years song People who take cheap flights to Sydney for the city's new year celebrations may well be among those who hear a song especially composed for the event.

An anthem named We Are The Light has been composed to coincide with the city's famous fireworks display which takes place at Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Sung by a children's choir, it is expected that the song will be heard by around 1.5 million people who will attend the huge firework display at the harbour to usher in 2012.

This year's event will also see the first time that an all-Australian soundtrack is used with the fireworks.

It is thought around 2.6 million people will also watch the event from their homes around the country, with up to one billion tuning in worldwide.

Travellers hoping to take in some culture after departing cheap flights to Sydney could be interested in the summer line-up at the Opera House, which will include illusionists and cabaret.
