Perth to host piano competition winner Travellers on flights to Perth who like to soak up some culture during their holidays could decide to book tickets to a performance by the winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition.

The contest is taking place in Sydney later in the year and the Perth Concert Hall has already confirmed the talented artist that scoops the prize will be showcasing their skills in the city on July 30th in an event hosted by Perth Theatre Trust and Perth Concert Hall.

Around 240 pianists aged between 17 and 30 years old will audition around the world to take part in the contest, with only 36 shortlisted to take part in the live finals in Sydney during early July.

Some people could be planning to head on flights to Perth in order to soak up some sunshine, as the city boasted its hottest year on record during 2011, with an average temperature of 25.7 degrees C.
