Holidaymakers going mad for DubaiMore people than ever are purchasing flights to Dubai, leading to one of the busiest periods in the airport's history, it has been revealed.

In a statement released today (July 21st), Dubai International airport said passenger numbers had increased by 13.8 per cent upon last year's figures.

Some 18.46 million passengers had passed through the airport in the first half of 2008, with 3.25 million of those seen in March alone.

President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: "The airport is the main gateway to the city of Dubai which is recognised as a global commerce and tourism hub.

"The growth of the city and that of the airport are entwined in a directly proportional relationship."

Figures from Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing show that of the one million visitors from the UK last year, two-thirds say they plan to return soon, reports the Financial Times.Meet the editors...
