Millions of Britons have never been abroadA surprising number of British people have never ventured on a foreign holiday, new research has revealed.

According to a survey by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, 6.96 million people in this country have only taken holidays on their home shores, with 21 per cent of the over 65s having stayed at home.

Meanwhile, people in the East Midlands were found to be most likely to have never been abroad, followed by those in Yorkshire and Humberside.

However, people in London and the West Midlands were found to be more jet-setting, with most people in these regions likely to take their holidays abroad.

Anyone looking to venture on a foreign break for the first time could consider booking flights to Dubai, the main tourist destination of the Arab world.

Its beaches and luxury hotels attract over a million - mainly Western - tourists to the country and the neighbouring Emirates each year.Meet the editors...
