Dubai to get new public transport linkA Metro system which will enable tourists to travel easily from place to place has been tested in Dubai.

The £2 billion project is expected to be launched in September 2009, with full completion due for 2012.

It will eventually feature some 47 stations with both elevated and underground stations, as well as parking facilities so people can leave their cars to cut congestion.

Oliver Hickey, UK sales director of Profile Europe, the company in charge of the project, said the most recent tests caused people to stop in wonderment to see the new train.

"With such a growing population, it was imperative that a transport system capable of catering for the transportation of hundreds of thousands of people was instigated at an early stage and in true Dubai style," he commented.

"The Dubai Metro, upon completion, will add yet another dimension to this rapidly expanding metropolis."
