Atlantis resort opens to public in DubaiPeople going on holidays to Dubai will finally be able to stay in the Atlantis resort after its grand opening today (September 24th).

The 1,539-room hotel is situated on the man-made Palm Jumeirah Island and is one of the most extravagant feats of engineering the emirate has seen yet.

Visitors staying in the Lost Chamber will be lucky enough to have undersea views into the Ambassador Lagoon, home to tropical fish and rays.

Another attraction is the Leap of Faith water slide, which drops people 27.5 metres before sending them through a transparent tunnel inside a shark-filled aquarium.

Developers claim this is the tallest, fastest free-fall slide in the Middle East.

In addition, some 25 bottlenose dolphins have been delivered to Atlantis from the Solomon Islands and will be trained to interact with visitors.

The hotel also contains world-class restaurants, shops, beaches and a spa resort.

Recently, travel journalist Stephen Bleach wrote in the Times about his own visit to Atlantis, describing the resort as a mind-boggling feat of engineering.
