Dubai aims for 15m visitors by 2015Tourist officials have said they aim to encourage 15 million people to go on holidays to Dubai by 2015.

This is part of the city's strategic plan for tourism, which will see the amount of accommodation increase by 93,900 hotel rooms and apartments in seven years, reports the Travel Trade Gazette.

Ian Scott, spokesperson for the Dubai department of tourism and commerce marketing, said: "The development of world-class facilities across the leisure and business arena continues to support Dubai's rapid growth in accommodation, enabling the emirate to retain its position as a premium destination."

Some 22 new properties will have opened by the end of 2008 alone, including the prestigious new Atlantis resort on the man-made Jumeirah Palm island.

Earlier this month, Stuff.co.nz recommended that people going on holidays to Dubai should always ensure they have booked their hotels ahead of time, since many hotels get full between October and April.Meet the editors...
