Terminal 3 opens in DubaiPeople on holidays to Dubai from Europe may find it easier to access the emirate following the opening of a new airport terminal yesterday (October 14th).

Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport will operate flights exclusively for Emirates Airlines, the national carrier, and the first flight took off on time for Doha yesterday following the grand opening.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airlines, said: "While we were quite confident of the robust systems and facilities, today was still a day of reckoning and we are delighted that our operations worked as planned."

The Associated Press reports that the new terminal will increase the airport's capacity by another 20 million passengers.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said the hub will have handled about 40 million passengers by the end of 2008.

Tourism officials in Dubai have said they aim to attract 15 million people to Dubai by 2015.
