Holidays to Dubai great for shoppingPeople looking for a shopping destination that they can combine with a short break should choose holidays to Dubai, it has been claimed.

According to recent research carried out by Mintel, some 8,500 short breaks were taken to the United Arab Emirates in 2007, a growth of 46 per cent from the previous year.

In addition, one in ten UK adults was found to have been on a short break in the past 12 months, with long-haul destinations popular thanks to the value they offer against the pound and from tax savings.

Ian Scott of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing said: "Dubai is becoming the city-break destination of choice, particularly for couples seeking an alternative to more traditional destinations such as New York and Paris."

He added that it offers discounted leading brands, tax-free shopping malls and the annual shopping festival, which will take place from January 15th to February 15th in 2009 to tempt shoppers.

Last month, the biggest shopping centre in the world's history opened in Dubai.

When it is full, the Dubai Mall will house 1,200 shops, 160 food and drinks outlets, 220 gold stores and an organic food market.
