Emirates Airlines to increase services and capacityEmirates Airlines has said that it plans to introduce additional services along its major routes this year.

Despite the credit crunch, the Dubai-based company said it will increase its number of flights by 14 per cent after recording a 20 per cent growth in business since 2004.

Another 18 aircraft will be brought in to meet the demand for new routes.

Chairman and chief executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said the company intends to increase services in areas where it has already operated with success and has seen demand from travellers.

"All of our new capacity will be deployed in markets where we see growth potential, particularly Africa and the Middle East," he added.

There was an 11 per cent increase in the number of Emirates passengers passing through Dubai International Airport in 2008, it was found.

Earlier this month, Emirates said that more than 30 per cent of people on flights equipped with the facility to make in-air calls are making use of it.
