QE2 may open to guests earlyIn potentially good news for people going on holidays to Dubai, the QE2 could open to visitors early following requests from members of the public.

The ship, which is now owned by Nakheel after arriving in the emirate city in November, was intended to remain closed while it was completely stripped inside and converted to a floating hotel.

However, it is now thought that the ship may be opened with its original layout intact.

"In the light of huge popular interest, Nakheel is investigating the possibility of opening the QE2 to visitors in her current condition for a short period of time before her refurbishment begins," the company said in a statement.

This would be similar to the Queen Mary, which is in California and has kept her original layout to attract tourists.

When it has been refurbished, the QE2 will be based in the Palm Jumeirah, where it will sail around the man-made islands that make up Dubai's The World.
