Holidays to Dubai have been recommended to people who want to see a destination that is like nowhere else on earth.

Miriyana Alexander, writing for the Sunday Star Times, said that the city state is intriguing and that it is fascinating to think that it did not exist in its current form 20 years ago.

"Dubai is the ultimate city of contrasts. A place where you can dine in luxury at the world's only seven-star hotel and an hour later be riding a camel in the desert," she commented.

Ms Alexander particularly recommended Jumeirah beach, the old town and the new town as places tourists should see before they leave, adding that taxis are a cheap and cool way to get around.

A walking city tour was also suggested by the writer, since this allows visitors to see the gold souks, spice markets and desert safaris.
