Etihad scoops award for best business classEtihad Airways has scooped a prestigious award for its business class services at a recent ceremony.

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier came in at first place in the poll of 16 million passengers carried out by consultancy firm SkyTrax, an improvement on last year's fifth position.

SkyTrax chief executive Edwards Plaisted said the accolade is a remarkable achievement, particularly given the fact that it has only been in business for five years.

"These awards clearly demonstrate the huge value of Etihad's desire to focus and invest in quality customer service," he added.

Last month, Etihad expressed a desire to increase the number of passengers it carries this year by 15 per cent to seven million.

The carrier said in a statement that six million people were serviced on 50 routes during 2008, something which it hopes to build upon in 2009 through an expansion of fleet size and destinations covered.
