Dubais airport recognised by top publicationIn good news for people going on holidays to Dubai, the city state's airport has been given an award by Newsweek.

The publication voted Dubai International Airport to be the single largest development in the region's aviation history, as well as deeming it to be one of the United Arab Emirates' best business performers last year.

It was recognised for its contribution to the growth of the economy, as well as to developments within the industry.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, said the hub has seen growing numbers of passengers as the city has become more popular as a holiday destination.

"It is indeed a great honour for Dubai Airports to be recognised by such a prestigious publication as Newsweek," he added.

Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport has become the first in the Middle East to have facilities for visibility conditions as low as 50 metres.

This follows the installation of a new landing system by the General Civil Aviation Authority and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority earlier this month.
