Flights to Dubai increase despite downturnThe number of flights to Dubai increased during the first quarter of this year, new figures have shown.

According to data from Dubai Airports, passenger traffic at Dubai International increased by two per cent, reaching over 9.5 million people from January to March.

This made it the only airport in the world's top ten to register a passenger increase despite the global economic downturn.

Chief executive of Dubai Airports Paul Griffiths said: "The results reaffirm Dubai's position not only as the regional centre for tourism and business, but also as an important aviation hub connecting the east and the west."

Earlier this month, the same hub was voted as the single largest development in the emirate region's aviation history by Newsweek, as well as one of its best business performers last year.

Dubai International also recently became the first in the Middle East to have facilities for visibility conditions as low as 50 metres.Meet the editors...
