Holidaymakers urged to do their researchABTA - The Travel Association has advised holidaymakers to ensure they look into their next destination's local laws and customs before setting off.

A spokesperson for the organisation said that doing so is less likely to result in problems when it comes to issues such as topless sunbathing.

Her comments came after research by the Foreign Office showed that half of all females who sunbathe topless do not check if this is allowed by law first.

The ABTA spokesperson noted that there are several countries that holidaymakers might assume are relatively liberal in this regard that are actually restrictive.

"Places like Greece, for example, are very conservative, but perhaps people are led to believe or to think [otherwise] because they do have lots of bar culture and clubs," she commented.

Those booking flights to Dubai might need to be reminded of a case last year where a British couple received a three-month jail sentence after being found guilty for having sex on a beach in the emirate.ADNFCR-1809-ID-19225860-ADNFCR
