Customers 'should be given 24 hours to alter cheap flight bookings'

The UK watchdog for the aviation industry is encouraging more airlines to offer consumers the chance to alter their details free of charge for up to one day after booking.

Customers should be given 24 hours to alter cheap flight bookings

People booking cheap flights to Australia, Dubai and elsewhere should be given one day's grace to consider their reservations and alter any details they may have entered incorrectly, it has been stated.

This is according to the Air Transport Users Council (AUC), which has suggested that 24 hours breathing space should be granted to those booking flights, following a flurry of complaints about wrongly entered details and the lack of margin for error.

"A 24-hour rule would cut out haggling between airline and complainant about where the fault lies and allow customers to book air tickets over the internet with greater confidence," stated the AUC.

It is now calling for more carriers to introduce toll-free alterations within 24 hours of booking and said it is disappointed with the way in which many handle customer complaints.

The AUC is the UK's consumer watchdog for the aviation industry and is funded by the Civil Aviation Authority.
