Dubai Airport sees double-digit growth for third month running Dubai International Airport experienced double-digit growth in the number of passengers it welcomed through its doors August, suggesting that increasing numbers of people are enjoying cheap holidays in Dubai.

According to official figures from the airport, it saw a 10.7 per cent increase in travellers in August 2009, after a reported rise of 12.6 per cent in July and 10.3 per cent in June.

This brought the number of passengers it handled during August to 3,729,879, breaking the 3.7 million barrier for the second time this year.

Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports' chief executive, said that the Middle Eastern airport has "defied the global trend" this year.

"Dubai International is the only airport among the top ten airports in terms international passenger traffic to still record positive growth," he added.

These statistics come after Ian Scott, director at the Dubai department of Tourism and commerce marketing, said the he is "incredibly confident" that the region's popularity will continue on its current upward trajectory in 2010.
