Dubai focusing on cruise marketDubai's tourist board has been promoting the cruise industry in the country, an expert has said.

Commenting on the rising numbers of holidaymakers opting for all-inclusive cruise ship breaks, chairman of the World Travel Market Fiona Jeffrey said that Dubai has been increasing its share of the market.

"Dubai has put a big focus on cruising, which sees many itineraries stop there," she noted.

Ms Jeffrey added that cruising is becoming a "vital sector" for the travel industry and is rapidly expanding.

Last month, the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) announced that it was expecting the number of travellers taking to the seas to increase by 6.5 per cent in 2010.

Bill Gibbons, PSA director, attributed the rising popularity of cruises to the variety and value on offer in the sector.

He stressed that such holidays not only take passengers to a selection of interesting destinations but also provide them with an opportunity to experience different activities and cultures.
