Dubai hotels to get new rating systemThose taking cheap flights to Dubai will soon have a new hotel classification system to peruse when they choose where they want to stay in the emirate.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has revealed the new structure will come into force at the end of the year.

At present, all hotels in Dubai are classified according to the international system which gives ratings of one to five stars.

The new approach will see the addition of three more categories to highlight the unique features of each.

These include business, beach, desert and heritage properties.

Majid Al Marri, director of classification at DTCM's Licensing and Classification Division, said: "Under the new ratings, five-star hotels will have three categories – platinum, gold and silver. The selection criteria for other hotels categories, ranging from four to one-star, have also been overhauled."

Adam Sommers, writing for the New York Daily News, recently claimed that the Address Downtown Dubai is a great place to stay.
