Dubai to complete tram networkDubai Roads and Transport Authority (DRTA) has announced that the state's tramway network will be completed by 2014.

Holidaymakers taking flights to Dubai will soon be able to benefit from the 14km tram link that will connect a number of the emirate's key attractions. The project was launched in 2008 and is part of a national scheme that will eventually encompass various public transport systems including buses, boats and trains.

The latest phase of the tram development will involve the linking of Al Safooh tram route with three stations along the red line of the Dubai Metro. In addition, the tramway will also connect with Palm Jumeirah's monorail.

It is expected that the total cost of the new transport system could cost around $1.8 billion (£1.1 billion) but could be a welcome addition for those taking flights to Dubai in the coming years.

DRTA has already developed a special journey planner called Wojhati, which allows people to plan their trips using various methods of transport via a website.
