Emirates increases fleetDubai-based Emirates has confirmed it plans to increases its fleet to meet growing demand.

The airline has ordered a total of 20 Airbus A350-1000s but has called on the manufacturer to extend its range of craft to include a three-class model that Emirates could use on its flights to Dubai from Los Angeles. This would mean a similar setup to the Boeing 777-300ER that offers a total of 354 seats.

Emirates president Tim Clark explained to Bloomberg: "We're trying to persuade Airbus to realign the A350-1000 more toward the ER, increasing both its capacity and its range."

So far, Emirates has ordered a number of 89 Boeing 777s and taken ownership of 41.

Mr Clark added that the carrier is hopeful that Boeing's new 777 will offer a lighter and more fuel efficient option.

Meanwhile, Emirates has confirmed an agreement with JetBlue Airways to allow passengers taking flights from Dubai to New York to be able to take onward US domestic flights without additional check-ins and baggage transfer measures.
