Dubai Duty Free proves popularPeople taking flights to Dubai have increased their shopping at the airport's Dubai Duty Free retailer.

The world's largest retailer is predicting that annual revenue could double to $2.5 billion within six years as the number of passengers using Dubai International Airport continues to rise.

Colm McLoughlin, managing director of Dubai Duty Free, explained that total sales for 2010 will be 14.5 per cent higher than in 2009.

He added: "Traffic through the airport is up, between 14-15 per cent on last year and there are 46 million passengers expected this year.

"Next year it's 52 million. So when these extra passengers come in, we sell a little bit more."

The retailer is also set to increase its operations with the opening of the new Al Maktoum International to commercial travelling and expansion of its current space at Dubai International Airport.

Last year, Dubai Duty Free recorded over 20.3 million sales transactions - with an average of 55,800 per day.
