Palm Jumeirah's recently opened Marina East is expected to be followed up by a similar sized opening later this year, taking the total capacity to 1,000 boats.

Dubais Palm Jumeirah marina to double in size

Watersports fans looking to take a cruise during their holiday in Dubai may be excited to learn that the UAE city's Palm Jumeirah marina is due to become twice as large.

Local developer Nakheel has laid out plans to house 1,000 boats at the site, after the first half of the project, Marina East, was opened earlier this month (April 3rd).

Yacht-loving Brits catching flights to Dubai won't be disappointed with the glamorous boats on show, as the marina can house 520 craft as big as 30 feet long.

Marina West will open towards the end of this year, taking the site's total capacity up to 1,000, the developer said.

Last week, Ali Lootah, chairman of Nakheel, said that there was a booming need for marinas in the Emirati city.

"The marine and leisure industry has a competitive market and our aim is to provide a world class marina service with lots of recreational opportunities," he said.
