Movie buffs in for a treat at Dubai film festivalFilm-loving Brits catching flights to Dubai can expect a range of cinematic treats over the coming week as the UAE city's annual film festival kicked off today (April 14th).

The six-day event showcases a range of contemporary work by experienced and emerging filmmakers from the Arab gulf and further afield.

A total of 153 films will be screened from 31 different countries, featuring more than 110 from Arab nations, including Iraq and Yemen.

Abdulhamid Juma, chairman of the Gulf Film Festival, said: "This festival is unique in the world as the only platform where filmmakers from the Gulf nations, Iraq and Yemen can share what's on their minds with the rest of the world."

A panel of judges will pick the best films from this year's event, with the winner taking home prize money of more than Dh 500,000 (£83,000).

The film festival box office at the Grand Cinemas Dubai Festival City is open from 10.30am to 10pm local time each day during the festival and tickets are limited to two per purchase.
