Abu Dhabi marinas to tempt sailing fansWith the Volvo Ocean Race fleet due to arrive in the marinas of the UAE's capital next year, the local tourist board has laid out its top reasons for Brits catching flights to Abu Dhabi to consider sailing in the region.

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority claims that the conditions are ideal for sailing nine months a year, with only July and August not recommended.

Warm breezes, light gusts and azure waters make for great sailing, while there are more than 200 natural islands to explore in the nearby region.

Those who think Abu Dhabi is just a modern development may be interested to learn that the neighbouring Delma Island is home to human artefacts that archaeologists believe to be 10,000 years old.

Animal lovers can sail to Yas Island to discover the Arabian Wildlife Park, which is home to the world's largest collection of Arabian oryx, as well as cheetahs, giraffes and ostriches.

Finally, there is plenty of choice in terms of craft, with the 143-berth Yas Marina offering a wide range of seagoing vessels for keen sailors to hire.
