Medical cover vital even on budget trip to DubaiEven if families are cutting costs as much as they can by looking for cheap flights to Dubai, it is essential that they sign up for medical cover.

This is the view of Essential Travel's Stuart Bensusan, who pointed out that this applies to everyone, from the richest travellers down to completely broke backpackers.

He said: "If they have a bigger budget then I would recommend that they get cover for cancelation, baggage and also if they are going to do sports, the additional premium."

Mr Bensusan explained that medical cover is a bare minimum amount of insurance simply because it can be so costly to pay for healthcare abroad.

The Essential Travel representative claimed a broken leg sustained in Spain can end up costing the sufferer up to £8,000.

According to the company, 56 per cent of travellers admit to partaking in unplanned watersports activities while they are away, suggesting more holidaymakers should consider adding cover for such hobbies.
