Dubai announces street light switch off People taking flights to Dubai could find that the street lights in the emirate are dimmed after a certain time, as it has announced it will take the step to cut carbon emissions.

The lights in 55 residential areas across Dubai are to be dimmed at night in an attempt to reduce its carbon footprint, Gulf News reported.

It was stated that from 22:00 local time each day, lights will be switched off in areas which do not need them to prevent traffic incidents.

"Lighting poles located in medians of two intersecting roads, or at U-turns, roundabouts and intersections are being exempted from these measures as they are extremely vital for the smooth flow of traffic," said Mohammad Abdullah Al Ali, head of RTA's Energy Saving Team and Director of Buildings and Facilities.

Those planning to take flights to Dubai can still expect a luxurious experience, as Emirates Airlines has reported it will open a new First Class lounge.  ADNFCR-1809-ID-800694836-ADNFCR
