Dubai cruise terminal to be expanded People taking flights to Dubai in order to join a cruise could find the emirate's terminal is even better than before following news of an expansion plan.

DP World has announced that it is accepting tenders on the project, which will see the location at Port Rashid increased in size to accommodate five vessels by the end of next year.

At present, two cruise ships carrying a total of around 7,000 can dock in the port at any time.

"Development of the cruise terminal facilities at Port Rashid supports Dubai's long term strategy to stimulate growth and development in the traditionally strong tourism sector," said Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, chairman of the company.

This expansion is the first phase of a plan to create new retail and leisure facilities at the port.

Travellers who take flights to Dubai and who enjoy art could be interested in news that an artists in residence programme has been announced for local and international painters.
