New museums to open in Abu Dhabi in 2017 People travelling on flights to Abu Dhabi in the coming years will have a lot more cultural venues to choose from as the emirate is planning to open a pair of high profile museums.

The state has announced it is restarting plans to construct its own branches of the prestigious Louvre gallery in Paris and the Guggenheim in New York by 2017.

After falling into problems last year the plans stalled but they have been restated now, along with the construction of the Zayed National Museum, with all three venues to be constructed together on Saadiyat Island.

Each of the venues will be worth visiting based on their architectural merit alone, as Jean Nouvel is designing the Louvre, Lord Norman Foster is working on the Zayed and Frank Gehry will be overseeing the Guggenheim.

The news could prompt even more people to book flights to Abu Dhabi, with the state's Airports Company recently announcing it had seen a 13.9 per cent rise in passenger numbers during 2011.
