Brits plan Easter exodus to CairoMany British travellers will be taking cheap flights to Cairo and other destinations over the Easter period, new research has found.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), more than two million people will be heading abroad for some sunshine over the holiday period.

While Spain is the most popular destination for travelling Brits, Egypt is not far behind, while Turkey and Tunisia are both high on the list.

John McEwan, chairman of ABTA, said that many British people are getting in holiday mode as the summer approaches.

"Easter is the traditional curtain raiser to the summer and I am delighted to see that hundreds of thousands of our customers are taking the opportunity to take a well-earned break both here in the UK and overseas," he added.

Recent research by Holidays-Direct.co.uk found that Thailand is among the destinations non-football fans will be escaping to during this summer's World Cup in South Africa.
