Egypt tourism enjoys double digit growthBritons who are thinking of going on holiday to Egypt this summer may not be alone, as a new report has found the destination has enjoyed "double digit" tourist growth in the first two months of the year.

The interim update of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer revealed that those taking flights to Cairo and other Egyptian destinations are helping the country's tourism growth.

According to the report, the number of people taking international holidays is steadily gaining momentum, with tourist arrivals growing by seven percent in the first two months of 2010.

Ian Bradley, spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said that the recent volcano eruption is unlikely to have an effect on those going on holiday to destinations such as Egypt.

"The volcano won't put people off, it was a freak incident that caused short-term chaos but nothing life-changing in terms of how we take holidays," he explained.

Sarah Munro of Post Office Travel Money recently advised those flying to Egypt in the near future to ensure they check exchange rates when changing currency, as they could end up with less money to spend on holiday if they make the wrong decision.
