Brits making cutbacks to afford holidays

People in the UK would much rather cut back on some of their everyday spending than miss taking flights to Egypt and other countries.

A study by LV= showed that 77 per cent of people are making some form of cutback on their day to day spending rather than miss heading away on a holiday or other luxuries.

Holidays and weekend breaks were found to be the most important thing for consumers to still have, with 51 per cent of respondents deeming it to be essential and a total of £81.5 billion being spent on it by British households in the year to August 2011.

It found that other essentials which people are not willing to go without include going on nights out and having takeaway meals.

Those booking flights to Egypt and other nations could be planning to take their trip with family and friends, as Abta - the travel association found this was the most popular form of trip.
