Holidaymakers opting for cheaper packagesMore people than ever are looking at reducing the cost of their holidays rather than abandoning them altogether, an industry expert has claimed.

James Fremantle, spokesperson for the Air Transport Users Council (ATUC), said that tour operators are still seeing healthy numbers of bookings, thanks to people choosing cheaper alternatives for their getaways.

"Tour operators are actually reporting pretty good numbers, so it looks as if people are just downgrading their holidays. They are still going away, but downgrading from certain holidays to cheaper package holidays," he said.

Earlier this month, research from the Association of British Travel Agents showed that average summer holiday bookings are up on last year.

Anyone looking for a well-priced holiday with a bit of culture could consider booking flights to India.

The country's Inca citadel of Machu Picchu became the best-selling tour destination worldwide in June, according to the website IExplorer.

Meanwhile, it was chosen by Forbes magazine as the number one adventure tourist site for seven consecutive years, reports the Peru News Agency.Meet the editors...
