Visit India for the best international musicFans of world folk music may wish to book flights to India in time for October 10th.

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival will be held in Jodhpur from then until October 14th and promises to be one of Asia's biggest music events.

Visitors will be able to attend folk performances, shows from some of India's biggest bands and club nights at the Mehrangarh Fort, once described by Rudyard Kipling as the "work of giants, fairies and angels".

They will also have access to the gardens, terraces and royal apartments of the fort.

Gaj Singh, Maharaja of Jodhpur, said: "Musicians from Rajasthan are custodians of some of the most vibrant folk traditions in India."

The festival was established last year and has already received international acclaim for the quality of the performances.

People heading off on holidays to India this year may wish to take advantage of backpacking tips offered by Mooky Chick magazine, which advocates bartering in Indian shops to get the best deals, as well as taking travellers cheques for times when it may be difficult to get to a bank.
