Film director sings praises of Mumbai

A British film director has spoken of how he was bowled over by the city of Mumbai after shooting a new motion picture there.

A British film director has spoken of how he was bowled over by the city of Mumbai after shooting a new motion picture there.

Danny Boyle, perhaps best known for Trainspotting and Shallow Grave, used Mumbai as the backdrop for Slumdog Millionaire, the story of a shanty town dweller who wins a fortune on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

He commented that he was struck by the energy of the city.

"Mumbai is an extraordinary place. It's a city on perpetual fast forward and the generosity and humanity of this city is beyond capturing," Mr Boyle told the Press Trust of India.

He added that he was inspired to make a film in India thanks to his father's stories of the country from when he was stationed there in the Second World War.

In other Indian travel news, Business Week recently reported the opening of a new runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

It is now the country's longest runway and opened for commercial flights on August 28th, which could be good news for people taking flights to India.
