Weddings abroad 'on the increase'

A growing number of people are choosing to get married abroad, one industry expert has said.

A growing number of people are choosing to get married abroad, one industry expert has said.

Thea Darricotte, editor of Conde Naste Brides magazine, said that this is because it often provides a better option weather-wise, as well as saving money amid the credit crunch.

"With the climate change that is going on at the moment more people are thinking of sunnier climates where they are going to have more for their money and also pretty much good weather guaranteed," she commented.

Research by Direct Line Insurance found that almost a quarter of British couples who married between 2004 and 2006 did so abroad.

Anyone booking flights to India in order to get married - a popular choice among Britons - is advised by the British High Commission that couples should be resident in the district chosen for not less than thirty days immediately preceding the date on which the notice of intended marriage is given.
