Delhis new airport to be ready by 2010People regularly travelling on flights to Delhi may be interested to know that the city's newly-developed airport is scheduled to be ready by 2010.

According to the Economic Times of India, the hub's terminal 3 will open on March 31st 2010, when all international and domestic full-fare airlines will move their services there.

It is estimated that the new terminal will have a capacity of 37 million passengers a year, boasting 48 immigration counters for faster service through security.

The new runway has already been completed and will take the flight-handling capacity of the airport to 65-70 flights per hour, as opposed to the 35 currently offered.

Prabhakar Rao, chief executive of airport development, said: "A lot of work is already over. The basic structure of the new terminal is in place and we have a sufficiently trained work force to ensure there are no hiccups."

Delhi is the second largest metropolis of India and has a population of some 17 million.
