Finn Air celebrates 85th birthday with ambitionFinland's flagship carrier Finn Air has celebrated 85 years in business with a series of predictions about the future of travel.

The airline launched its Departure 2093 project, which looks forward to what could be happening in the world of travel then.

It predicted that air transport will be revolutionised with new technology and that even ordinary jets will be capable of travelling at up to five times the speed of sound - meaning that flights to Australia will take only three or four hours.

Finn Air project designer Kauko Helavuo also predicted that people will be able to take honeymoons and holidays in space: "Space travel will start up on a big scale between 2020 and 2040. A 15-hour stay in a space hotel will be obtainable for a sum equivalent to two months average salary."

Back to the present day, Finn Air offers services to a network of 15 domestic and 55 international destinations, including flights to Delhi, Bangkok and Mumbai.
