Be prepared for holidays, FCO warnsThe Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has warned Britons to ensure they are financially prepared for every eventuality while on their holidays.

It has launched a campaign called 'Know Before You Go' in an attempt to make sure that people are aware of the costs that can build up on such trips, after research found that one in five Brits thinks that the British Embassy would lend them money if they ran out.

Jess Prasad, FCO spokesperson, said this is not the case, except in exceptional circumstances.

"Taking out comprehensive travel insurance and taking some simple steps to minimise costs could significantly reduce the risk of having an exceptionally expensive Christmas break," she added.

The organisation's other tips include taking pre-paid travel cards rather than credit cards and putting important contact numbers into mobile phones in case of emergency.

A recent survey carried out by Kayak.co.uk found that 60 per cent of people hope to go abroad, including on holidays to India, for the festive season.
