Sensible silver surfers are booking breaks onlineOAPS are teaching themselves internet skills so that they can book holidays to India and other locations online and grab a bargain, it has been revealed.

According to a new poll, 74 per cent of pensioners have done this, which has resulted in 62 per cent of all the bookings made by this demographic being done online.

The main factor behind this was the savings that can be had, as well as the luxury of being able to shop for holidays in their slippers instead of having to elbow their way through the high street.

However, some 13 per cent also said that they surf the net for breaks to avoid pushy salespeople in traditional travel agencies.

Chris Brown, spokesperson for sunshine.co.uk, which carried out the study, remarked: "The increase in the amount of OAPs booking their holidays online doesn't surprise me at all – it's cheaper, very straightforward and saves time and effort dragging themselves around various travel agents in town."

Meanwhile, according to a recent poll carried out for the Association of British Travel Agents, 57 per cent of respondents booked their last holiday on the internet, Travel Mole reported.
